Path of Hardship and Unity
Design Brief :
In honor of the 75th anniversary of independence, a commemorative wall will be dedicated to the state’s freedom warriors. The wall will be designed in a modular format, allowing it to be easily replicated in various locations such as parks, schools, educational institutions, and public spaces. The wall aims to educate and inspire young minds about the rich history and bravery of Tamil Nadu’s freedom fighters, standing as a lasting reminder of their courage and dedication.
Intent & The Design:
The design is an abstract representation inspired by a photograph from the Quit India Movement, depicting people marching towards freedom. It aims to capture the essence of this historical moment by creating an experiential path that reflects the hardships and glory of people uniting for a common goal– the freedom of the Mother Nation.
Freedom Path with the rough gravel symbolizes the hardship journey towards freedom, showcasing the collective effort of people from different directions across villages, streets, cities, and states. while the self-illuminating concrete material symbolizes their glory. The dedicated blocks with etched names are stacked one on top of the other in different directions using SS rods and fittings to form the unity wall. The modular system, using precast concrete and GFRC tablets, allows for easy installation. The central area is a versatile, open space suitable for community events and public gatherings.
The installation of the Unity Wall is envisioned as community-based initiative, enabling local residents and their families to participate in its creation as a form of tribute.
The central space is conceived as a dynamic and expansive public plaza, meticulously designed to facilitate a wide spectrum of community activities. It will serve as a premier venue for hosting public gatherings, fostering a vibrant community space, and providing a much-needed open public park for daily use.
Furthermore, its design allows for the seamless accommodation of special occasions, including national celebrations like Republic Day and Independence Day, as well as a diverse range of events at various scenarios.
