Design Concept

Client Brief :

Chennai International Centre (CIC) a new state-of-the-art campus for the CIC- “CICON”. campus will be constructed in approximately 11 Grounds of land with about 50,000 sq.ft. of built-up space, providing auditorium, meeting halls, art gallery, entertainment area, cafeteria, and office space.

An intellectual hub for the city’s intelligentsia to meet, share, discuss, and evolve transformational ideas. It would be a ‘privately enabled’, 'public purpose’ facility to support and stimulate a progressive and inclusive society. The design of the building and components should reflect this ethos and provide for an iconic public space in the city of Chennai. CICON is envisioned as a modern, green, tech-driven world class building CICON (Chennai Icon) with an auditorium, seminar halls, library, art gallery and a cafe, with open space around the building aesthetically landscaped.

Context and Programming

Intent & The Design :

The design uses levels and voids to connect three distinct spaces, creating terraced green open spaces at all levels to compensate for limited street-level area. It blurs the lines between street, entry, and encounter zones with an entry plaza and café that reinterprets street-side people-watching. The CIC building's street level will serve as a citizen meeting point, hosting continuous events, spaces, and opportunities, while the terrace gardens are designated interaction spaces for CIC and its partners.

Site Edges as Spaces of Interaction

Adaptable Public Event Space in the ground floor at different scenarios.
